Wear Your Doorposts!
“Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Cor 10:31)
Many things can be said about what Christians should be doing in their day-to-day lives. The numbers of ought-tos and ought-nots is practically limitless. It can be difficult to even be aware of the right way in every circumstance of life, let alone to muster the discipline to abide by that way in each one. Thank God for the truth of the Gospel of Jesus that shifts the burden of our obedience for salvation’s sake onto His shoulders and allows us the freedom to follow out of a loving and grateful response.
In light of His many acts of mercy and boundless grace, we take on the task of offering our lives as sacrifices of worship and praise. The difficulty in that lies in the many battlefronts that we face – the world, the flesh, and the devil – as we attempt to live out the great gift of faith and privilege of adoption in Christ.
The scriptures teach through numerous examples that we must actively pursue the discipline of remembering God and His great acts of love towards His people in order to face each new day and each new challenge with the right mindset – that of faith – in order to know how to respond as well as be able to do so by reliance upon Him.
This is taught so clearly in one of the great passages of the Old Testament commonly referred to as The Shema (שְׁמַע). In this passage, the Lord is telling His people how they are to utilize every area of their daily life – their schedules, their habits, their possessions – in order to both recall what they have once known as well as to teach those who have yet been privileged to learn. This is a great example of practical family worship, but it is also a great lesson in the daily life for all Christians.
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)
~ WEAR YOUR DOORPOSTS ~
It was this passage that led us to create ReformedTees.com. Over the years we’ve become convinced of a few things:
- God wants His word and truth to be spread around the world. (Psalm 96:3, Mark 16:15)
- People need to call on Christ for salvation. They need to believe in order to call. And they need to hear in order to believe. (Romans 10:14)
- Every day, people (Christians and otherwise) go around wearing walking billboards filled with messages of little or no value…as Christians we need to redeem that space and use it for Christ’s kingdom. (Colossians 3:17)
Realizing that conversations are often started over what we wear, carry, and/or hang up around us, we decided to equip and empower others to intentionally spark those conversations in order to shine more light on Christ.
Thus our Mission Statement reads as follows:
We exist to equip and empower believers who take seriously their calling from God to be image bearers and disciple makers.
By doing so we hope to encourage those who are aware of His glorious truths and educate those who are not through wearable and shareable reminders and conversation starters.
